Volunteers in Public Schools

Greg Handy, a former volunteer baseball coach, volunteers as a Reading Friend at Ryan Elementary because he wants to be a positive role model for all children. Mr. Handy (or “Coach” Handy) knows that since most teachers are female, many children lack positive male role models. “Coach” Handy finds that every time he enters his student’s classroom, all of the students want Coach Handy to read with them.

“If a child learns to read well, then they can be successful in every subject,” says Mr. Handy. VIPS greatly appreciates this dedicated volunteer!
